At Catchlight, we like to think of painting as more than just a service—it’s an experience. And like any good experience, it begins with a solid plan; we refer to it as the five P’s.
1. Pricing
Let’s start with the elephant in the room—or in this case, the $95-an-hour elephant. Yes, our hourly rate is a bit higher than the average “guy with a ladder,” but that’s because we’re not the average guy with a ladder. We’re a fully insured, safety-certified, highly-trained team of professionals.
For that rate, you’re getting peace of mind:
-
- $100K worth of insurance, umbrella insurance for the possibility that our insurance isn’t robust enough
- Employees who pass drug tests and background checks before we let them wear the Catchlight uniform
- Benefits for our staff because they have families too – vacation, health and dental insurance, retirement
- Top-tier customer service, and a friendly, enthusiastic crew you wouldn’t hesitate to invite in for coffee, proven by our Google reviews.
So, yes—we can’t and won’t compete with every Tom, Dick, and Harry out there. We provide a professional experience—it’s an investment. But so is your home. And it deserves skilled, experienced, and professional attention, inside and out.

2. Protection
Our team is trained in OSHA and EPA lead-safe regulations, so you won’t find any shortcuts or questionable practices here. We maintain tidy, safe workspaces and are especially mindful in furnished homes with children, pets, or people working from home who aren’t fans of impromptu background noise.
But protection also means peace of mind; properly protected flooring and furnishings, careful lifting and moving of furniture where needed, documentation of furniture and artwork placement if we do need to move your possessions, use of HEPA filtered vacuums and negative air machines to ensure we do not share our dust with you (or our lungs for that matter). We require the use of portable toilets to ensure your own private spaces remain yours. We also have our canvas drop cloths laundered bi-weekly; we promise never to bring anything dirty or dusty into your home! But we do promise to leave it as clean or cleaner than we found it.
Ultimately, protection means when our work is done, there is no mess, no muss, no paint spatter or speckles anywhere – floors, hinges, door knobs, plants, kids, pets!
3. Preparation
The unglamorous hero of painting. Prep work is like flossing: tedious, too often ignored, but absolutely essential. Cleaning, scraping, sanding, patching, caulking, masking, and spot-priming; It’s the step that separates a job that lasts a season from one that lasts for years. But we also replace what needs replacement and cannot be repaired – watertables, window and door casings, fascia, cornerboards.
If you’ve ever seen paint peeling, chances are someone skipped the prep. Not us. We’re borderline obsessive about it—and that’s a good thing.
4. Priming
Think of primer as the handshake between your walls and your paint. It’s the middleman that ensures the color you chose actually looks like the color you chose—and sticks around long enough to enjoy it.
Whether it’s sealing in new wood, repairing plaster and drywall, old water stains, improving adhesion, or helping your bold navy wall look like a chic design choice instead of a DIY horror story, primer plays a key role.
5. Painting
At long last, the main event. This is the part where our crew—your new favorite group of tidy, polite, expertly trained professionals—transforms your space. With efficient techniques, steady hands, and zero shortcuts, we bring your vision to life.
And when we say “crew,” we don’t mean someone who just learned the word “paintbrush.” We hire for character and train for skill. Every member of our team is communicative, respectful, and committed to quality. We like to say: if we wouldn’t want them painting in our home, they wouldn’t be painting in yours.
So, What Can You Expect When You Work With Catchlight? You can expect professionalism from the first estimator meeting to the final brushstroke. You’ll receive a written, transparent quote, fair pricing, and a team that respects your time, space, and sanity. Children and pets? No problem. Nosy neighbors? We’ve got charm for that, too.
And the best part? Final payment is due only when you’re 100% satisfied. Painting may be messy, but the process shouldn’t be. With Catchlight, every “P” stands for Professionalism—with a capital P. Regardless of scale, we’ll make sure the process is smooth, safe, and a satisfying experience.
